One of Canada’s most prestigious independent think tanks, the MacDonald-Laurier Institute, has welcomed the former Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott, as a Senior Fellow for CANZUK.
In an announcement published today, the Institute welcomed Abbott “to further his message to our audience both in Canada and around the world.”

Abbott has been a vocal supporter of closer ties between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, expressing support for closer mobility agreements between the four nations, and furthering trade ties.
At the recent April 2024 Canada Strong & Free Network Conference in Ottawa, Canada, Abbott spoke highly of furthering cooperation between the CANZUK countries:
“Countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand – which have so much in common and so many ties of history and culture…I think that if we acted in a reasonably coordinated and cooperative way, we can change the world for the better.”
