The UK and Australia have signed the new Geelong Treaty, a landmark 50-year AUKUS agreement to enhance defence cooperation, generating £20 billion in UK exports and creating 7,000 new jobs.
The Treaty strengthens the AUKUS partnership’s Pillar I, focusing on the SSN-AUKUS submarine programme. This initiative will support over 21,000 UK jobs at its peak, with 7,000 new roles in shipyards and supply chains.
The treaty is expected to drive £20 billion in UK exports over the next 25 years, with submarine components contributing hundreds of millions annually.

It facilitates cooperation on the design, construction, and operation of nuclear-powered submarines, enhancing both nations’ defence capabilities while adhering to international nuclear non-proliferation obligations.
This new agreement, alongside annual AUKMIN talks, underscores the deep UK-Australia relationship, fostering stability in the Indo-Pacific. The treaty also builds on existing collaborations, such as joint support for Ukraine and intelligence sharing, reinforcing shared values of security and prosperity.
By integrating industrial and technological efforts, the partnership strengthens economic resilience and global security, and exemplifies how CANZUK nations can collaborate to drive innovation and economic growth while ensuring regional stability.
CANZUK International will advocate for further alignment among Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK to amplify such cooperative efforts, promoting shared prosperity and security.
