CANZUK International has submitted a formal letter to the Australian Government requesting a review of the six-month employment restriction for Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa holders.
The current policy requires WHM visa holders to change employers every six months, limiting their ability to maintain stable income and meaningful employment while in Australia. This restriction, initially intended to encourage travel and varied work experiences, has become increasingly challenging for WHM visa holders. Many find it difficult to secure jobs under such conditions, especially in an environment of rising living costs and competitive job markets.
Furthermore, Australian employers are restricted from retaining skilled WHM workers, resulting in increased hiring and training expenses and diminished workforce continuity. The letter advocates for removing this limitation across all sectors, thereby allowing WHM visa holders to engage in steady work arrangements while supporting Australian businesses. This change would also strengthen ties between CANZUK nations, fostering greater economic and cultural exchange and bolstering Australia’s attractiveness as a destination for young people from Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
