To enhance opportunities for UK citizens, Australian authorities will revise their regulations regarding working holiday visas for UK citizens as part of agreements made under the Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement.
This move entails an increase in the age limit from 30 to 35, allowing British individuals to partake in working holiday experiences in Australia, and potentially source a pathway to permanent residency.
Although the amendment was initially agreed upon in December 2021, it is set to come into effect starting from May 31st, 2023, giving Australia a two-year window to implement the changes.

Presently, the working holiday visa program is available to applicants up to 30 years old.
However, as outlined in the Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement, the new rules will extend eligibility to British citizens aged 35 and under. The implementation of this amendment is expected to occur between next month and May 2025.
According to government statistics, Australian authorities issued over 15,000 working holiday visas to UK citizens from July to December of the previous year, making them the primary beneficiaries of this program. French nationals followed with a total of 10,474 visas, trailed by Ireland (7,410), Germany (6,436), and Italy (5,753).
CANZUK International welcomes the implementation of new visa rules by the Australian authorities for UK citizens, and looks forward to continuing engagement with government officials to further expand provisions for freer movement between Canada, Australia New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
