The UK Home Office has announced that, from January 31st 2024, eligibility for the UK’s Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) visa will be expanded to include Australian and Canadian nationals aged 31-35 years.
The new provisions match the eligibility requirements for New Zealand nationals, and will provide greater working, travel and living rights to citizens across the CANZUK countries.
The YMS visa has been an attractive option for many young people over the years. While the requirements for the certain countries differ slightly, it ordinarily allows individuals aged 18-30 to obtain a two-year visa, which permits employment in the UK.

However, the new update to the law now means that nationals of Canada, Australia and New Zealand can (a) be aged up to 35 years and (b) reside in the UK on this visa for up to three years.
After continued lobbying from CANZUK International, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK have all increased available opportunities for those under the age of 35 to obtain working rights throughout CANZUK. This provides an ideal platform for which further negotiations can be held, and additional provisions can be implemented towards freer movement for citizens.
CANZUK International looks forward to the new regulations being implemented in January 2024 by the UK Home Office, and will continue to advance freer movement for all CANZUK citizens as diplomatic discussions progress.
