New polling commissioned by CANZUK International shows significant support among Australians for greater mobility and reciprocal working rights with the UK and Canada.
The latest polling results come shortly after the Australian government announced comprehensive visa reforms this month, phasing out the existing 482 visa and introducing a ‘Skills in Demand’ visa which is valid for four years upon grant.
The results also complement recent revelations by senior officials in the UK Civil Service, indicating that the UK Government are reviewing the expansion of age limitations for Australian nationals seeking work permits.

Of 1,099 Australian adults surveyed between January 4th and January 8th, 2024:
• 79% agreed that visas and work permits should become part of future negotiations with the UK and Canada, with the intention of improving reciprocal visa access for citizens
• 89% agreed that pathways for spousal sponsorships should be improved between Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, given the lengthy periods of time that families are separated because of visa processing timelines
• 89% agreed that qualifications of skilled professionals should be recognized in all three countries as a means to solve skills shortages
The poll results will be published in full by CANZUK International in the coming days, and reflect the growing support for visas and work permits to be expanded within the CANZUK countries.
CANZUK International welcomes the polling results and will continue to engage with UK, Canadian and Australian officials to pursue further advancements towards reciprocal visas and work permits.
