British Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell, has publicly announced his support for the UK departing the European Union on January 31st, 2020 and the necessity to forge closer cooperation with Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Speaking in the House of Commons last week, Rosindell expressed his support to fellow MPs regarding the UK leaving the EU and the obligation of parliament to fulfill its democratic mandate after the recent December 2019 general election.
In a heart-felt speech to all Members within the chamber, Rosindell stated:
“Britain is back! Back as a global free trading nation with an independent trade policy, making new alliances and renewing those that we have neglected over the mistaken period of political union with Europe”.
Rosindell also emphasized that the UK’s departure from the EU is an opportunity to cooperate with Commonwealth countries in the future, as well as cooperate with international allies “with the most professional armed forces and security services of any nation”.

In what was received by colleagues with cheers, Rosindell continued to emphasize that British foreign policy must not only focus on trade with the European Union, but also with the United States of America and especially Canada, Australia and New Zealand:
“The key areas of focus must not only be a new free-trade agreement with Europe, [but also] a renewed focus on the Commonwealth, most especially Canada, Australia and New Zealand, where we must forge a much closer relationship, with the aim of creating a new CANZUK alliance”.

The speech in favour of furthering CANZUK ties comes just one week since CANZUK International published its 2020 report, “The Future of Post-Brexit Britain”, detailing the economic and social benefits of establishing freedom of movement for citizens and free trade between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
The report was submitted to all UK Members of Parliament on January 8th and has received positive feedback from both Conservative and Labour MPs.
To compliment the submission of our 2020 report and the speech by Andrew Rosindell MP, we encourage all supporters of our campaign to email their local Member of Parliament and request their support for closer migration, trade and diplomatic ties between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Our free letter/email template can be viewed and downloaded here, along with information about how to locate and write to your local Member of Parliament.
CANZUK International will continue to work with UK Members of Parliament and ensure that free movement and trade with Canada, Australia and New Zealand remains a top priority for the British government as the country negotiates new trading and diplomatic relationships in the coming months.
